Mammograms May Cause Cancer…And False Positives Cause Grief

“In poll, 61% of doctors say mammograms should be less frequent,” from an L.A. Times Article. This topic has troubled me for some time, as most women  feel caught in the middle. We have been taught that getting screening tests is the smart thing to do, it’s preventative, it may save our lives. However, this year there have been repeated news stories concerning screens such as mammograms and PSA tests that are less than favorable.

Findings have shown that the PSA test used to determine a man’s level of prostate cancer may be quite worthless and now that mammograms may do more or as much harm as good. A study done in four Norwegian countries even showed an increase in breast cancer with mammograms: “Breast cancer rates increased significantly in four Norwegian counties after women there began getting mammograms every two years. In fact, according to background information in the study, the start of screening mammography programs throughout Europe has been associated with increased incidence of breast cancer.”published in the Journal of the American Medical Association’s Archives of Internal Medicine

One of the latest news stories featured last night on ABC news relates to the dangers of mamograms and the emotional impact the huge number of false positives has on Patients. It stands to reason, when a woman is told she may have cancer and that a biopsy is necessary, she becomes frightened of the “Big C.” Even though some 60% of biopsied lumps are NOT CANCER at all, once diagnosed with the possibility, these women’s lives are forever changed. They are more worried, more fearful, and less at ease.

Another part of the puzzle is the findings from mamograms.  They detect three types of cancers:  ones that are too advanced and cannot be cured, ones that can be cured, and ones that would never have caused a problems within the person’s lifetime.  Only the second scenerio benefits from these screenings.  The other two instances are of people who do not receive benefit and may be harmed psychologically from the experience.

I recall my precious mother’s opinion of mammograms (she lived to be 88 and never had one).  She said that if you have a small lump in your breast, you squeeze it in a vise, bombard it with radiation…you may end up with a cancer that you never would have had!  She was one smart cookie!  Please investigate thermography as a “pre test” to mammogram or ultra sound; it is a heat photograph that is non invasive and is available in most areas of the United States and Europe.

If you find you do have cancer, hop the next flight to Ann Wigmore institute in Puerto Rico and eat your fill of sprouted, living foods and energy soup (see previous post).  Check out Tony Jiminez and HOPE FOR CANCER.  Most of all, love your body and repeat this mantra every day, as often as you can:  “Divine Breasts, Divine Breasts, Divine Breasts, thank you for doing such a great job in my body. Please activate your healing now.  All is well in my body; I am healed, whole and healthy.”  And so it is.
